Slideshow for Homepage

I saw many posts were you recommend making an animated gif to create a slideshow on the homepage.
The images on my homepage are large (filling the maximum space), so when I turned them into gif, with 256 colors, they look awful.
Any other suggestions for slideshow?

    I'm afraid I'm not clear on the issue you're having. Can you please attach the GIF you created?

    Hi Heather - See attachment. The poor quality shows mostly on the skin (neck,/face).
