Adding Products + Product Options

To add a product to your Goodsie shop, head to the Products management page. You can reach this page by clicking on the Products icon on your main admin page, or from the Products link located in the Manage dropdown menu.

Click the "Add Product" option. On the product edit page, enter a title and description for your product, and specify a price and quantity. If there is not a limited number of this product, click on the "unlimited" option below the Quantity field. The "Description short" field will display in the storefront in some layouts. If you are tracking your inventory by SKU, enter an SKU number.

Product Options and Extras

Product Options are variations of your main product type. One example is a t-shirt that comes in a variety of colors. If you are offering a t-shirt in more than one color, check the "This product has multiple options" box. In the Title field that then displays, enter "Color." In the Option field, enter the colors available for that product. You can add further details to Options by clicking on plus sign next to the Title. This will create a new column. For example, "Lettering Style."

Do not enter an amount in the Fee field unless the option you are providing is provided at additional cost, like, say, gold lettering, or an abnormal size. If the fee field is left blank, the cost of the option will be the price indicated in the main Price field at the top of the product edit page.

Product Extras are additional goods added to the main good being offered, like a metal case for a pen. If your product comes with extras, click the "This product has multiple extras" option.

In the Title field that then displays, enter the title, i.e. "Case." In the Option field, enter the type of extra, i.e. "Silver." You can add further details to Extras by clicking on plus sign next to the Title. This will create a new column.

Enter any additional fees for the extra in the fee field. If the fee field is left blank, the cost of the extra will be included in the price indicated in the main Price field at the top of the product edit page.

Media

Goodsie supports an unlimited number of product photos and videos. To add a photo, click on the "Add Images" button. You will then be able to select a file from your computer. Select one or more files from your computer and click open to confirm.

To move a photo to a different position in the group, click on the arrow icon in the upper right after it is uploaded, and drag to another position. To add a video, click the "Add Video" button on the product edit page. Goodsie supports displaying either YouTube or Vimeo videos. To do this, copy the URL (web address) of the video and paste it into the video URL field on Goodsie.

To move a video to a different position in the group, click on the arrow icon in the upper right after it is added, and drag to another position. To remove a video, click the red X icon on the video.

Physical vs. Digital Goods

If your product is a physical good, e.g. a t-shirt, select the Physical option under Inventory. If your product is a digital good, i.e. a music file or PDF document, click on the Digital option. Selecting the Digital option will display a special Digital SKU field. This is an optional field that can be used to automatically deliver files to your customers via Fetch, a supported service on the admin Plugins page. To learn more about Fetch, see our FAQ.

Shipping Groups

If you have set up Shipping Groups on the Shipping & Tax page, the option to display an existing Shipping Group will display on the product edit page. This is needed only if you have largely varying shipping costs for different products in your store, and would like to specify different prices for each product type. If your store carries similar goods that all have the same shipping needs, a special Shipping Group is not needed.

Category

To assign a category to your product, click on the Category dropdown and select "Create A Category." Enter the title and click "Add it." An item can have one or more categories. These can then be used by your customers to browse and view your products by type, brand, etc... To remove a category, click the red X in the product title.

Status

Your product's default status is Available, which means it will display in the storefront. If you would like to save the product but not yet display it in the storefront, select Hidden. To indicate that a product is being offered at a discounted price, select On Sale. An option will appear to display the new, discounted price, which will display alongside the original price in the storefront. The Coming Soon option will display a "Coming Soon" message with your product, and the product will not be available for purchase.

Metadata

Product meta titles and descriptions are displayed in search engine results together with each web page’s link. While they are not factored into page ranking, the meta title and description are key pieces of descriptive copy used by searchers to decide which link to click on. The meta description should use keywords intelligently, but also create a compelling description of your product that a searcher will want to click. Direct relevance to the page and uniqueness between each page’s meta description is key.
